We're Going to be Make
History
As they walked to their car after waiting
for hours to get tickets to the Obama
town-hall meeting to be held on Monday,
Diana Brown said to her friends, "Do you
realize, we're going to make history."
Diana,
and her friends Barry Mahaffery, and Barb
Smith (pictured right) were three of
thousands who stood in line at Obama
campaign headquarters on Harrisburg Pike to
get tickets to the town hall meeting to be
held at Thaddeus Stevens Tech. All three are
from the city, but Democrats, Independents
and Republicans from all over Lancaster
County and neighboring counties stood in
line as well.

in my heart that there is one person who's uniquely qualified to lead
us in that new direction and that is Barack Obama."

Why I support Barack
Obama:
"As our nation is
reeling from the last eight years of international and congressional
stalemates, it is critical for unification, principled pragmatic
leadership to solve important issues facing our country and
the world with a calm, positive voice of reason to move forward. Obama
is the only candidate that I believe can reach out to mend our
reputation around the world, work across political party divides, and
inspire change."
Dayle Brown
I am fifty-three,
widowed, and recently moved to Lancaster from Atlanta. I am a teacher
and the mother of two grown children. I support Barack Obama for many
reasons. He shares so many of my concerns: the disproportionate share
of our country’s resources now claimed by big money and entrenched
power; the way politics-as-usual candidates can’t resist exploiting
our deepest most painful divisions just so they’ll win; our loss of
moral standing in the world’s eyes. I support him because his
proposals to deal with these problems are sensible, innovative and
always humane.
It excites me
knowing that Senator Obama not only cares about America’s poor, he’s
spent time living side-by-side with these folks – our neighbors who
need our help – so he can understand the thousand ways poverty
delimits their lives. An Obama administration, I believe, would offer
help that’s respectful and useful.
Maybe most of all, I
support Senator Obama because he calls for us to work together. He
asks us to renounce cynicism, unnecessary rancor, the resigned
acceptance that our national government belongs to someone else. He
speaks to us rather of what we all share – the power as a democracy to
return the American people’s great strength and fundamental goodness
to wise and humane purposes.
