Obama 2012

LCDC Chair responds to PA’s Commonwealth Court 8/15/2012 Voter ID Law decision:

Regardless of the PA Commonwealth Court decision, the Lancaster County Democratic Committee remains committed to the belief that Americans’ right to vote is a fundamental freedom. Elections should be about including as many voices as possible in the process. After all, isn’t the right for ALL citizens to vote and choose our leaders at the very heart of what it means to be an American? Today’s Commonwealth Court decision moves PA further from voter inclusion and closer to voter suppression.

Our votes should not be suppressed by technicalities and new rigid standards designed to influence this election as the Republican leadership bragged.   Incredibly, not even the Governor’s belated and forced admission that there were zero documented cases of voter fraud in PA influenced the Republican-dominated Commonwealth Court. For those who believe that judges are above politics, think again.

The Lancaster County Democratic Committee will continue to work every day to educate voters about the untidy details of the Voter ID Law.  Our goal between now and Election Day is to ensure that all eligible voters have the information and identification they need be able to vote, hassle-free, on Election Day.

Knowledge is power and the Lancaster County Democratic Committee will give voters the knowledge they need to use the power they have on Election Day, November 6th.
