Donald Trump has gotten away with lies and frauds his whole life. Most recently we learned his claims of being a self-made billionaire is also false. Documents show his father gave him over $400 million (not $1 million) and rescued him numerous times from failed business deals.
Trump assumes facts do not matter. So confident is he of his ability to con the public that he has boasted his followers would excuse him even if he shot someone on Fifth Ave. Apparently, he is correct, with around 40% of Americans continuing to support him.
The rest of us must hold him and those who support him accountable. We need a trustworthy President. Our country needs a President who cares about us more than his own self-interest.
Similarly, we need representatives who put country above politics. Unfortunately, Republicans, including Rep. Smucker, have failed to push back against Trump.
Readers who see Trump demeaning the Presidency have a responsibility to act. Of course, you must vote to hold Trump accountable. However, you can also encourage others to stand up.
I suggest respectfully sharing your concerns with your family, friends, and acquaintances. No fights. No trying to persuade. Just share. Your courage in speaking up can help others understand the dangers Trump poses to our democracy.
