Pennsylvania’s Democratic Party made history Saturday, June 18, when they elected Senator Sharif Street of Philadelphia to Chair of the PA’s Democratic Party, making him the first African American in the party’s 230-year history to hold that seat.
“Senator Street is the right fit for this critical year,” LCDC Chair, Tom O’Brien said. “He was elected Chair on the strength of his experience and his ideas for leading the party.”
Although Street is from Philadelphia, he has worked hard to connect with suburban and rural voters throughout the state. He supports policies that will help all Pennsylvanians.
Prior to becoming Chair, Street served four years as the PA Democratic Party’s Vice-Chair. He has also been a Pennsylvania State Senator since 2016. In that role, he continues to fight for affordable housing, quality education for all, women’s right to choose, access to healthcare, jobs, and more.
