Saturday, September 10, Lancaster County Democratic Committee hosted its annual awards gathering for volunteer committee people and their families in Long’s Park. Several Democratic candidates attended and spoke about how important November’s election is to the state and country.
LCDC recognized Kristy Moore as Democrat of the Year for her tireless work as a District Leader in Elizabethtown, where she also ran a strong campaign for school board, and for her work on the Democratic State Committee.
Kristy Moore, who is also LCDC’s Vice Chair, presented the award for District Leader of the Year to Tene Darby for the stellar job she did leading the Lancaster City Democrats. She was the first Black and Latina leader of that district. She was also recognized for her work on the Democratic State Committee.
Former LCDC Chair, Diane Topakian, received the Rita Smith-Wade-El Lifetime Achievement Award for her leadership working with the Service Employees International Union and for her work in Lancaster City politics and as LCDC Chair.
It was a Democratic Candidate-studded event that featured speeches from candidate for U.S. Congress Bob Hollister, candidate for PA House District 96 Mike Sturla, candidate for Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, and candidate for PA Senate District 48 Calvin Clements. Candidate for PA House District 49 Izzy Smith-Wade-El was also in attendance as was a representative from Mark Temons’ campaign for PA House District 98.
