Regardless of your political affiliation, I think it’s hard to argue that President Donald Trump is a normal, admirable human. He consistently clouds constructive discussion with deliberate lies or accusations of fake news. He intentionally insults individuals, organizations, allies and most of the rest of the world (except for Russia). He shows minimal respect for the human experience and the value of people not like him.
None of us would want our daughters to be in a room alone with him. He glorifies himself at the expense of presidential dignity, showing no interest in understanding ethical leadership. He carelessly dismisses scientific principles that are the foundation of our medical, environmental and psychological health. He quietly removes the regulatory protections of our environmental safety. He promises vague benefits for the common person, but in the end always favors the wealthy. He normalizes national discussions based on accusatory, inflammatory and divisive language. He epitomizes the swamp.
Maybe Trump is accomplishing some of your political goals — but at what cost to society? Are you willing to sell your political, theological and national soul to achieve these transient bangles? Look at the daily manifestations of ego, psyche and narrow-mindedness of this president. Is this what you want for yourself, your community and your country?
Trump was chosen by many. Now we see what we got. We will have the opportunity to choose again, locally and nationally. Let’s choose for individual health, community well-being, national dignity and world respect.
